Bittersweet Decorating

Every year ever since I can remember I've gotten a Christmas tree ornament from my grandparents. My grandmother would write my name and the date on each ornament so every time I hang them on the tree I can remember when I received it. When I was younger she would buy ornaments that celebrated something that I enjoyed or did during the year. For the past few years instead of buying new ornaments she began giving the grandchildren some of her own ornaments that used to hang on her tree.

This past spring my grandmother passed away. As I was decorating the tree and looking at her handwriting on all my ornaments I realize how much I miss her. This year I know I will treasure my ornament even more than before!

  1. Oh my gosh! How wonderful is your grandma for planning ahead! What a wonderful gift for years to come!

Thanks for coming over to my blog!

  2. I'm so sorry for your loss. Your grandmother sounds like a great lady. It was sweet of her to have everything set up for the next 5 years.

  3. I know what you mean. My grandmother got sick at this time last year. She held on until January, but the memories are in the back of our minds this Christmas.

I put a snow globe tablecloth I got from her on my reading table at school yesterday. Looking at it makes me smile and think of her.

  4. That is so sweet. How nice to have the memories and the personal touch of your grandmother's writing.

I can never do a theme with my tree ornaments because there are so many from different sources, each one with it's own story. Maybe my theme is memories, rather than a colour?

  5. I have all of my grandma's old ornaments, the same ones that my dad and uncles had as children. They are such a treasure.

    Hold them tight!

  6. Oh what a sweet post. So sorry your grandmother is no longer here in person, but her legacy lives on!

  7. that is perhaps one of the sweetest things! what a wonderful way to remember your grandmother and your times with her.

my grandmother passed away this past february and i find myself missing her a bit more than usual now that the holidays are here.

  8. That is so sweet! What a wonderful thing for your grandmother to do.

  9. What a wonderful gift she left for you! How amazing that she was organized five years in advance.

Go ahead...tell me like it is!
